2010 SIGNATURE PROJECTYouth In Yosemite
Funding Needed: $1,000,000The Youth in Yosemite program brings together several projects in Yosemite that offer opportunities for youth of all ages to participate in the Yosemite experience and to help encourage future stewards of Yosemite and all national parks.
These projects encompass both Experiential Learning with youth working alongside National Park Service employees to build knowledge, leadership skills, and a love for the outdoors along with Junior Ranger programs and exhibits that will reach an even broader audience of children visiting Yosemite.
- The California Conservation Crews will repair front-country trails in the Valley, near Wawona and the Merced River watershed, and over 60 miles of backcountry trails.
- The Youth Conservation Corps summer program will bring young people into Yosemite to work on a variety of restoration projects.
- A Student Conservation Association program will allow college interns to work in the wilderness and on visitor service projects in the Valley.
- Junior Ranger programs and exhibits at Happy Isles Nature Center will be expanded to engage more children in nature and the environment in Yosemite.
